Epic Games Acquires Fall Guys Maker’s Parent Company Tonic Games Group

Epic Games is acquiring a company called Tonic Games Group. If the name sounds unfamiliar, it’s the parent company of Mediatonic, which makes Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.

Though fortunately, the acquisition doesn’t change much of anything for the game. On its FAQ page, Mediatonic says that the game will remain purchasable on PlayStation, and more importantly, Steam.

Though the developers mention that it intends to add to Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout some features from other Epic Games titles. These include features like cross-play and squad vs squad modes from titles like Rocket League and Fortnite. That being said, the game is not going free to play, at least not yet.

Overall, the result of this acquisition is quite different from the Psyonix acquisition. That resulted in Rocket League going free to play, but no longer available on Steam for those who didn’t already own the game.

For those who prefer to have control of which launcher they use on PC, this is a pretty good outcome for Fall Guys. Things go on as usual, with more content coming for every new season. And Mediatonic didn’t have to sell its soul, at least in the eyes of games, for the funding to do so.
