Huawei Mate X2 Foldable Phone Goes Official: Features 8-inch Main Display, Kirin 9000, 100x Zoom Camera

Despite the on-going turmoil that Huawei has faced from the U.S sanctions, it doesn’t stop the company from coming out with new products. Earlier this evening, the Chinese tech giant has unveiled a new foldable phone called Mate X2.

As opposed to the original Mate X from 2019 and the subsequent Mate Xs that was released in Malaysia almost a year ago, the new Mate X2 has an inward-folding design. This is the same design that Samsung has used for its Galaxy Fold devices for the past two years as well.

Powered by Huawei’s own 5nm Kirin 9000 processor which has also been used on Mate40 Series devices, the exterior part of Mate X2 features a 6.45-inch Full HD+ OLED display which also houses the phone’s 16MP selfie camera. Inside, the foldable phone carries an 8-inch OLED with a native resolution of 2480 x 2200.

Even though both displays have a 90Hz refresh rate, their touch sampling rate is different from each other. Specifically, the exterior display has a much higher touch sampling rate at 240Hz while the internal display maxed out at 180Hz.

As for its rear camera array which was co-designed by Leica, the Mate 2X relies on a 50MP f/1.9 main camera alongside a 16MP ultra-wide f/2.2 camera and a 12MP f/2.4 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The device also carries another 8MP SuperZoom camera which offers 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.

In case you are wondering, yes, users can actually utilize the rear quad-camera module as a selfie camera too. Completing its general specifications is a 4500mAh battery that supports the Huawei SuperCharge 55W charger.

The new Huawei Mate X2 will be made available in China later this month with a price tag of RMB 17999 (~RM 11,253) for the 256GB variant while the larger 512GB model goes for RMB 18999 (RM 11,878). No release date has been announced for Malaysia for the time being though.
