Kingston “Ghost Tree” PCIe NVMe Gen 4 SSD In The Works; Will Have Speeds Of Up To 7000MB/s

Kingston recently released its NVMe SSD roadmap in conjunction with CES 2021, giving us an idea as to what we can expect from the memory, storage, and accessory maker this year. From that list, we now know that the brand will finally have a PCIe NVMe 4.0 SSD to offer to the masses.

According to Kingston’s official press release, the NVMe Gen 4 SDD is called “Ghost Tree”, which we’re guessing is just a placeholder until the brand decides to give it a proper name when it launches. Moving on, the company says that the SSD will be capable of achieving sequential read and write speeds of 7000MB/s, which is enough to make full use of the PCIe 4.0 x4 bandwidth. As for storage capacities, it looks like we can expect variants starting from as low as 1TB and as high as 4TB.

Beyond that, Kingston isn’t saying much else about the rest of Ghost Tree’s specifications and pricing. In regards to the latter, and given the planned capacities and that the brand is aiming it at power users and content creators, it clearly isn’t going to be cheap, especially if you’re going for the full 4TB treatment.

Kingston’s announcement doesn’t end with Ghost Tree either. In addition to the announcement of its PCIe 4.0 SSD, it also announced its new entry-level NV Series PCIe Gen 3 x4 SSD series, with capacities of up to 2TB. It also announced the XS2000, which is the brand’s new USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 external drives, with capacities of up to 2TB and transfer speeds of up to 2000MB/s via USB-C.
