iOS 14.4 Available Now: Includes Critical Fixes That Address Active Security Exploits

Apple has begun deploying the latest operating system update for iPhone and iPad in the form of iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4. As usual, the update carries several improvements as well as bug and security fixes but this time around, the fixes also cover issues that may have been actively exploited by hackers.

The in-depth nature of these issues has not yet been revealed by Apple but the company has mentioned that all three issues were reported by an anonymous researcher. One of them affects the kernel of both operating systems and would apparently allow hackers to run an application that could elevate their privileges.

Another two issues belonged to the WebKit which is the web browser engine that Apple has used for Safari. The company noted these security bugs may allow attackers to run unauthorised codes remotely.

Aside from these critical security fixes, the iOS 14.4 and iPad 14.4 updates also enabled the Camera app to better recognise smaller QR codes and a new option inside Settings that allows users to properly classify the type of their Bluetooth audio devices. For iPhone 12 devices, the update will also allow them to notify users if the camera hardware is not genuine.

In case you want to learn more, you can check out Apple’s support website for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 for further details. Nevertheless, we do recommend you to update your iPhone and iPad due to the security concerns that we have mentioned above.
