The rear casing of the 2021 ASUS ROG Phone was leaked not long ago, as previously reported. This time around, thanks to a newly uploaded unofficial hands-on video, we now have a good look at its overall design as well as a new feature: a small secondary display on its back.
This new leak is again provided by leakster WhyLab on Weibo, showcasing the use of the new secondary display on the tentatively named ROG Phone 5. It turns out that the new feature was hiding in plain sight all along in the earlier leak, as it was shown in an inactive state.
WhyLab reveals that the rear display is able to display animations, including notifications such as alerts and call information. The different type of modes for this can be customised by the user from a dedicated app on the ROG Phone 5 itself.
Other than that, the video also showcases the phone’s front display, albeit very briefly. Unlike earlier speculations of an all-screen approach which was hinted by ASUS’ teaser, the new gaming smartphone appears to still feature an upper bezel to house its front facing camera. According to SparrowNews, the new ROG Phone will feature a 6.6-inch display by Samsung, which comes with a refresh rate of 144Hz.
Like the previous leak, no further details of the phone’s specifications have been revealed so far. The new 2021 ASUS ROG Phone is speculated to launch in late March or early April.
