Rumours of a Metal Gear Solid movie have come and gone over the past decade. But now, there’s news of it actually happening. The team behind the film has finally found someone to play the titular main character.
Deadline reports that Oscar Isaac will be playing Solid Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie. The movie in its entirety is being handled by Sony Pictures, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts in the director’s seat. But beyond the single character getting cast, there’s no word on when the film will begin proper production.
Good news for the film has been a long time coming, really. Word of the game being translated to the silver screen first appeared all the way back in 2006. The project then got abruptly cancelled in 2010. The producer at the time, Mike De Luca, cited Konami as being worried that if the film performed poorly, it would affect the sale of future games.
Though now, with Konami essentially driven the series into the dirt with Metal Gear Survive, that’s no longer an issue. Though it’s still surprising that the company will allow the film production to go ahead, since it will once remind everyone that Hideo Kojima used to work for the company.
