Like many games on the PS5, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales lets players choose between prioritising graphics and frame rates. This unfortunately means having to choose between ray tracing and 60fps. But with a new update, it is possible to have both at the same time.
As part of the update, the devs at Insomniac games added what’s called “Performance RT Mode”. This acts as an in between for the two existing modes. The description of the mode in-game says that this is done by “adjusting the scene resolution, reflection quality, and pedestrian density”. Which means that while it still has 60fps, there will be some graphical downgrades as a trade off. Though no official figures have been given for what the resolution adjustment is like.
Also, this best-of-both-worlds mode only applies to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It’s not something that has been made available for the base game’s remastered edition on the PS5. Though when asked on Twitter if that will happen, Insomniac’s community director James Stevenson merely replied with a thinking emoji.
So if you don’t mind taking a resolution and pedestrian density hit, you can now play Miles Morales in 60fps with ray tracing. Which is great as an option, no doubt. Though since frame rates should take priority over everything else for the least headache-inducing experience, the choice is now between the base performance mode and this new performance RT mode.
