The review embargo for Cyberpunk 2077 lifted yesterday. In addition to their standard review, Game Informer also published a PSA about the game’s epilepsy triggers. It looks like this has reached the developers at CD Projekt Red, and the company has responded to this issue.
In the tweet, CDPR says that it is working on adding an additional trigger warning that’s in addition to the one in the EULA. The dev team is also working on a more permanent solution. Once one is found, it will be implemented as soon as possible.
For a game like Cyberpunk 2077, it is very odd that the only epilepsy trigger warning is in the EULA. Take for example, Ubisoft. The publisher adds trigger warnings to plenty of its games at startup, even when the only flashing lights players will see is the muzzle flash from gunshots. So you’d think CDPR would have something similar for a game with nightclubs, and more importantly, its Braindance initiation sequence.
But regardless, this is a step in the right direction. As for the more permanent solution, this could involve an option to dampen or turn off the flashing lights in sequences where they are prominent. But we’ll have to wait for another announcement to find out for sure.
