Public transport operators are not allowed to raise fares during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri. The decision, he added, was made during the Special Ministers’ Meeting held earlier today on 14 May 2020.
“The meeting today decided not to allow public transport operators to raise fares even though the standard operating procedure (SOP) was set to allow only 50- percent use of passenger capacity,” said Ismail Sabri.
The discussion regarding the fare prices was raised after the government had received complaints from public transport operators, revealed the minister yesterday during a press conference.
Ever since the implementation of the CMCO, operators have been looking to offset losses caused by the cutting of passenger capacity by half in order to comply with social distancing regulations.
