The alleged CAD design of the iPhone 12 Pro Max has been released online as a collaboration between Youtube channel EverythingApplePro and XDA journalist Max Weinbach. As you might recall, Weinbach previously leaked the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus in its full glory just days before the series’ official launch earlier this year.
EverythingApplePro explains that Weinbach had acquired information regarding the device from sources in the phone accessory industry, and adds that its standard for them to receive CAD designs of upcoming products around this time. Interestingly, fellow leaker Jon Prosser claims that the alleged leak is legitimate. However, Weinbach notes that the design is only 70-percent complete and its final design may differ later on.
From the alleged iPhone 12 Pro Max design itself, we can see that Apple may have taken design cues from the iPad Pro in terms of aesthetics. Rather than curved, the smartphone features a flat surrounding frame which is also reminiscent of iPhone 4 and 5 designs. A notable change is the relocation of the SIM card tray which has been moved to its right hand side, below the volume rocker. EverythingApplePro speculates that this is due to the interior logic board also relocated in this new design.
The CAD depicts that the new Pro Max dimensions are measured at 3.07-inches wide, 6.3-inches tall and 0.29-inches thick, which makes it larger but thinner than the current model. Its screen is believed to feature a higher screen-to-body ratio with thinner bezels and may also offer a smaller notch.
While specifications of its cameras are still unknown, the alleged leak does detail the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s rear camera layout. From the CAD design, the phone still features a square camera island on the top left, but now with a symmetrically aligned camera placement. Additionally, schematics of the device suggests that the island and cameras will protrude less when compared to its predecessor.
Other than that, the upcoming iPhone model is expected to feature the A14 Bionic chip, a Lightning port for charging, as well as the ability to charge wirelessly. Another curious addition is a Smart Connector on its right hand side, similar to the one found on the iPad Pro but smaller. This led most to believe that the iPhone 12 – specifically the Pro Max variant – may include Apple Pencil support or other compatible accessories, which is highly interesting.
As usual for every leaked content or hearsays, it’s suggested that you take this information regarding the iPhone 12 Pro Max with a pinch of salt. It will definitely take some time for Apple to officially spill the beans about their upcoming flagship smartphones, but you can expect us to bring you the latest when the time comes.
