All you need to do is to send in your full name, a photo of the receipt and the name of the place where you got the receipt from to the number 091-279 4317. Send them in, and action will be taken within 24 hours, according to a Bernama report.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He also said that the ministry has received 642 complaints so far through this medium since the SST implementation on 1 September 2018. Most of the complaints were, unsurprisingly, on prices of food and drinks at restaurants.
With that said, services of food and beverage preparation are indeed subject to the 6% charge if the business in question makes RM1.5m a year. It’s three times more than the previous threshold of RM500000, but it’s easy to assume that many mainstream eateries, especially those with chain outlets, would make that kind of money in a year regardless.
But if you’re having supper at your mamak shop and you’re paying 6% more than you think you should, then you can send your complaints straight to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, and they’ll find out if they’re making RM1.5m a year for the 6% price hike to be justified.
