Based on a tweet made by Ice Universe, Samsung is rumoured to be readying a new smartphone featuring four cameras, to be released this year. According to Ice Universe, the phone will not be parked under the Note, S or the F (foldable) brand.
Not much info was shared by Ice Universe, apart from the additional info that the four cameras will be all on the back of the phone. While other brands have made marketing blurbs emphasizing four cameras before, it is usually for both the front and rear modules.
It is possible that we may see the four-camera smartphone under the A-series family. DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics Co. said that his company was going to build more mid-range price phones in order to appeal to the millennials.
During an interview, Koh said that the A-Series marketing strategy will be adjusted to meet this goal. By introducing cutting edge technology to mid-tier models first rather than reserving it for the high-end smartphones.
To date, Samsung’s top of the line Galaxy Note 9 only houses a dual-camera main array, while Huawei’s P20 Pro sports a triple-camera setup for its main array. So it’ll be interesting to see how Samsung’s ambition for a quad-camera main array will play out.
